Leather

Preservatives are indispensable in the leather industry for preventing damage by microorganisms. Raw hides have to be protected against decomposition by bacteria during storage and soaking. As hides enter the pickle and tanning stages of leather manufacture, bacterial problems are rare. The acid pH reduces bacterial growth on pickled pelts, wet blues and vegetable leather. Therefore, moist hides that are stored for long periods or transported over long distances need adequate protection against mould.

The Preventol® range contains reliable products for the leather industry:

Bactericides for soaking and fungicides for long-term protection of wet blues, pickled pelts and vegetable leather. They are liquid, ready-for-use preservatives and can be applied directly to leather at various stages in the production process. These products are marketed by the
Business Unit Leather of LANXESS.

Active ingredients (phenolics and non-phenolics) for the formulation of preservatives for leather and other industrial uses are marketed by Business Unit Material Protection of LANXESS.

In-can preservatives for water based products such as leather pigment finishes, pasting adhesives and fat liquors are equally marketed by Business Unit Material Protection of LANXESS.
